Article 1 (Purpose)
These Terms set out the rights, obligations and responsibilities of Chatgram (the "Company") and users in connection with the Chatgram mobile app, the web reader and related services (together, the "Service").
Article 2 (Definitions)
The terms used in these Terms have the following meanings.
1. "Service" means the app and web pages the Company provides so that users can create stories by playing characters, continue them with AI suggestions, publish finished works for other users to read, and share them by link.
2. "User" means anyone who uses the Service, including Members and Guests.
3. "Guest" means a user who uses the Service without creating an account.
4. "Member" means a user who has signed in with a Google account or an Apple Account (each a "sign-in account") and entered into a service agreement with the Company.
5. "Account" means the information the Company keeps, linked to the sign-in account's identifier, to identify a Member.
6. "Content" means everything a user creates or uploads in the Service — works, episodes, scenes, lines (dialogue, narration, description), characters, images, sounds, profile information, comments and the like.
7. "AI features" means features in which, at the user's request, an artificial intelligence suggests the next line, infers a character's personality and emotion, or generates cover and scene-background images.
8. "Suggestion" means a single line produced by an AI feature and placed in the input field; it is not Content until the user sends it.
9. "Publish" means a Member completing an episode and making it visible to other users and web-reader visitors, with a share link.
10. "Plus" means the paid plan under Article 20, in which a Member pays a monthly or yearly fee for additional benefits.
11. "Store" means Google Play or the Apple App Store, whichever the user downloaded the app from.
Terms not defined here follow applicable law and general usage.
Article 3 (Posting and Amending the Terms)
1. The Company posts these Terms in the app's Settings screen and on the sign-in screen so users can read them easily.
2. The Company may amend these Terms within the limits of the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and other applicable laws.
3. Amendments are announced in the app's Settings screen, with the effective date and reasons, at least 7 days before they take effect. Amendments that are material or unfavorable to users are announced at least 30 days in advance and also notified to Members by push notification or email.
4. A Member who does not object by the effective date and continues to use the Service is deemed to have agreed to the amended Terms. A Member who does not agree may delete the account.
Article 4 (Rules Outside These Terms)
1. Matters not covered by these Terms follow the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, the Copyright Act, the Personal Information Protection Act, other applicable laws and general commercial practice.
2. The handling of personal information follows the Company's Privacy Policy.
Article 5 (Eligibility and Accounts)
1. The Service is available only to persons 18 years of age or older. The Company may delete the account of, and restrict, any user found to be under 18.
2. To become a Member, a user signs in with a sign-in account. The service agreement is formed when the user agrees to these Terms and the Privacy Policy and signs in.
3. A Member may create only one Account per sign-in account and may not transfer or lend the Account to anyone else.
4. Members are responsible for keeping their sign-in account and device secure. The Company is not liable for consequences of a third party using an Account due to the Member's negligence, except where caused by the Company's intent or negligence.
5. The Company may refuse to form, or later terminate, the service agreement where:
1. the user is under 18;
2. the user signs in again without the Company's consent after being restricted or having the account deleted under these Terms;
3. the user uses someone else's sign-in account; or
4. the user is otherwise likely to seriously impair the stable operation of the Service.
Article 6 (Guest Use and Data Stored on the Device)
1. Users can create and write stories without creating an account. Content a Guest creates is stored only on the user's device and is not sent to the Company's servers.
2. Features that require an account — AI features, publishing, subscriptions, comments, likes and reactions — are available only to signed-in Members.
3. When a Guest signs in, the Guest content stored on that device becomes the signed-in Account's and is synced to the server. The Company informs the user of this before sign-in, and the user can refuse by not signing in. Take care on devices shared by several people.
4. Guest content stored only on the device may be lost through app removal, device reset or device failure, and the Company cannot recover it.
Article 7 (Content of the Service)
1. The Company provides the following.
1. Creation: creating works and episodes, placing characters and scenes, and writing lines to continue the story
2. AI features: next-line suggestions, character personality and emotion inference, cover and scene-background image generation
3. Publishing and sharing: making a finished episode public and creating a link
4. Reading: reading works published by other Members inside the app, following writers, and leaving likes, comments and reactions
5. Web reader: a web page where people without the app can read a published episode via a share link and leave an emoji reaction
6. Notifications: push notifications for comments, new episodes from followed writers, and reactions received the previous day
7. Plus: the paid plan and its benefits under Article 20
8. Reporting and blocking: reporting prohibited Content and blocking other Members (Article 14)
2. The Company may improve or change the Service; material changes are announced under Article 10.
Article 8 (AI Features)
1. Suggestions and generated images are produced by artificial intelligence. The Company does not warrant their accuracy, completeness or appropriateness; suggestions may contain inaccurate or inappropriate material.
2. A suggestion becomes Content only when the user chooses to send it. The AI does not write lines for the character the user plays and does not add lines without the user's explicit request. The user is responsible for suggestions sent and images adopted.
3. Using an AI feature transmits the recent lines, character information, work information and attached images at the time of the request to the AI provider the Company uses. The items transmitted and the provider are stated in the Privacy Policy. Users can refuse this transmission by not using AI features.
4. To keep the Service stable and manage cost, the Company may cap the number of AI requests per user per day; the app informs the user when the cap is reached. The cap may differ by plan (Free or Plus), and Plus also has a cap. Each plan's cap is stated on the Plus screen in the app.
5. The Company may restrict AI features so that content prohibited under Article 13 is not generated, and may decline to provide suggestions for such requests.
Article 9 (Changes to and Suspension of the Service)
1. The basic features of the Service — creating, publishing, reading, exporting, and AI features within the daily cap — are provided free of charge; Plus is governed by Article 20. The Company may change or suspend all or part of the Service for operational or technical reasons.
2. Termination of the Service or suspension of a major feature is announced 30 days in advance under Article 10. Where unavoidable — maintenance, failures, force majeure — the Service may be suspended without prior notice, with notice given afterwards.
3. When terminating the Service, the Company will make reasonable efforts to provide a period and means for Members to download or move their Content.
Article 10 (Notice to Users)
1. Notice to users in general is given by posting in the app's Settings screen or on a Service screen.
2. Notice to an individual Member is given by push notification or to the email address of the Member's sign-in account. For a Member who uses Apple's Hide My Email, it is sent to the forwarding address Apple provides.
Article 11 (Rights in Content)
1. Copyright and other rights in Content a user creates belong to the user. The Company claims no ownership of user Content, and users may freely use their Content outside the Service, including for commercial purposes.
2. Suggestions the user chooses to send and generated images the user adopts are treated as the user's Content. The Company claims no separate rights in them. Whether AI-generated output is protected by copyright is determined by applicable law and case law, and the Company makes no warranty on that point.
3. The user grants the Company a royalty-free, non-exclusive license to store, reproduce, transmit, display and modify (format conversion, resizing, preview-card generation and the like) Content to the extent necessary to provide the Service. This license is used only to store Content and sync it across devices, to show published works to other users and web-reader visitors, and to create share-link previews.
4. The Company does not use user Content to train artificial-intelligence models and does not use it in advertising or promotion without the user's consent.
5. The license in paragraph 3 ends when the user deletes the Content or the Account. Copies that other users have already saved or captured, and copies cached by external services (such as messengers) for link previews, cannot be recalled by the Company.
6. Rights in the Service itself — the app, the web reader, its design, software, and text and images the Company created — belong to the Company. Users may not reproduce, distribute, modify or reverse-engineer them without the Company's prior consent.
Article 12 (Publishing and Disclosure)
1. When a Member publishes an episode, its content and work information (title, cover, genre, mood, characters) become public as stored on the Company's server at that moment, and can be viewed in other Members' reading screens and in the web reader. The publishing Member's name, profile photo and one-line intro are disclosed with it.
2. Publishing is an act the Member chooses. Before publishing, the Member is responsible for checking that the episode contains nothing prohibited under Article 13 and nothing that infringes another person's rights.
3. A Member may unpublish at any time. Unpublishing closes the share link immediately and removes the episode from reading screens. Publishing again reopens the same link.
4. Other users may use published works only to read them and leave reactions in the app and web reader, and may not reproduce, distribute, adapt or commercially exploit them without the writer's permission.
5. Web-reader visitors can leave only whether they finished reading and an emoji reaction, without a name or account; the writer cannot see who reacted.
Article 13 (Prohibited Content and Conduct)
1. Users must not create, publish or post as comments any Content that:
1. explicitly depicts sexual acts or is intended for sexual objectification;
2. sexually depicts children or minors, or makes anyone appear so — without exception;
3. glorifies or encourages violence or cruelty, or encourages or instructs self-harm or suicide;
4. promotes discrimination, hatred or violence on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, region or similar grounds;
5. impersonates a real person, or uses a real person's name, likeness or personal information without consent in a way that defames them or invades their privacy;
6. infringes another person's copyright, trademark or other intellectual property;
7. is intended for, instigates or aids a crime, or advertises illegal goods or services;
8. is commercial advertising, promotion or spam, or repeatedly posts links unrelated to the Service; or
9. is otherwise prohibited by applicable law.
2. Users must not:
1. use someone else's sign-in account or Account, or transfer or lend an Account;
2. call AI features or access the Service by automated means (bots, scripts and the like), or circumvent usage caps the Company sets;
3. reverse-engineer or tamper with the Service's software, place abnormal load on the servers, or exploit security vulnerabilities;
4. harass or threaten other users, or post abusive, insulting or violent language in comments;
5. impersonate the Company or its staff; or
6. otherwise violate these Terms or applicable law.
3. Character dialogue and narration are expression within a story. In applying paragraph 1 the Company takes narrative context into account; paragraph 1-2, however, is prohibited regardless of context.
Article 14 (Reports and Measures)
1. Users who find Content falling under Article 13 or infringing their rights may report it with the in-app report feature (the ⋯ menu on works, comments and writer pages) or to the email address stated in the Privacy Policy. When reporting by email, please identify the work or link and describe the infringement.
2. A Member may block another Member. Once blocked, that Member's works and comments are hidden from the blocking Member, any following between the two ends, and the blocked Member cannot comment on the blocking Member's works. Blocks can be removed in Settings > Blocked users.
3. The Company aims to review each report within 24 hours of receiving it. Where several users report the same Content, the Company may hide it until the review is complete.
4. To keep out Content prohibited under Article 13, the Company may check comments and published episodes by automated means. A comment caught by the check may not be posted; a caught episode is reviewed by the Company, and material judged to fall under Article 13-1-2 may be hidden before review.
5. On receiving a report or otherwise becoming aware of a violation of Article 13, the Company may take necessary measures such as making the Content private or closing its share link, and may delete it without prior notice where the violation is clear.
6. Under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, when a person claiming infringement requests deletion or the posting of a rebuttal, the Company takes necessary measures without delay and notifies both the requester and the user who created the Content.
7. The Company notifies the affected user of the measure and its reasons and gives an opportunity to respond; in urgent cases or where the violation is clear, notice may follow the measure.
Article 15 (Restriction of Use and Termination)
1. Where a Member violates Article 13 or these Terms, the Company may act in the order of warning, restriction of specific features, suspension, and termination of the service agreement (account deletion). Where the violation is serious or repeated, or falls under Article 13-1-2, the Company may terminate immediately.
2. Before taking a measure under paragraph 1, the Company notifies the Member of the reasons and gives an opportunity to respond; in urgent cases, notice may follow the measure.
3. Content of a Member whose agreement is terminated is destroyed under the Privacy Policy, except that it may be kept for the period required by law or needed to resolve a dispute.
Article 16 (Withdrawal — Account Deletion)
1. A Member may terminate the service agreement at any time by deleting the account in the app's Settings. Deletion is processed immediately.
2. Deleting the account removes the Member's account information, Content stored on the server, published works and share links, subscription records, and the story data stored on that device, and this cannot be undone. Comments, likes and reactions left on other users' works remain only as traces of a "withdrawn user", with their text and author information removed. The procedure and exceptions for destruction follow the Privacy Policy.
3. Signing out does not delete the account. On sign-out the Account's Content disappears from the screen but remains on the server and the device, and returns on the next sign-in.
4. When a Member who signed in with an Apple Account deletes the account, the Company asks Apple to revoke the app's sign-in authorization.
Article 17 (Protection of Personal Information)
The Company protects users' personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable laws. Collection, use, outsourcing, cross-border transfer and destruction of personal information, and users' rights, follow the Privacy Policy.
Article 18 (Obligations of the Company)
1. The Company does not engage in conduct prohibited by law or these Terms or contrary to public order and morals, and does its best to provide the Service continuously and stably.
2. The Company maintains security systems to protect personal information so that users can use the Service safely, and publishes and complies with its Privacy Policy.
3. Where an opinion or complaint raised by a user about the Service is found justified, the Company handles it and informs the user of the process and result.
Article 19 (Obligations of Users)
1. Users must comply with these Terms, applicable law and the guidance the Company gives on Service screens, and must not interfere with the Company's operations.
2. Users are responsible for ensuring their Content does not infringe others' rights. If the Company receives a claim from a third party because of a user's Content, the user shall indemnify the Company and compensate the resulting damage, except where the user is without intent or negligence.
Article 20 (Paid Service — Plus)
1. Plus is a paid plan available to Members only. Its benefits (higher daily caps for AI suggestions and image generation, multiple suggestion candidates, viewing character relationships, exports without the app name, and the like), its price and its term are shown on the Plus screen in the app and in the Store's product listing; changes are announced under Article 3.
2. Plus is paid for only through the Store's in-app purchase (Google Play billing or App Store purchase), and that Store's payment terms and policies apply alongside these Terms to payment methods, receipts and refund processing. The Company does not collect or store payment-method details such as card numbers; it keeps only a purchase identifier (Google Play purchase token or App Store transaction identifier) used to verify the subscription, together with the plan and its expiry date.
3. Plus is an auto-renewing subscription. Unless the Member cancels in the Store at least 24 hours before the end of the current term, it renews for the same term at the same price and is charged to the payment method on the Store account (Google account or Apple Account). Where a discounted introductory price is offered for the first term, it renews at the regular price when that term ends; where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
4. Members may cancel Plus at any time in the Store's subscription management (Subscriptions in Google Play, or Apple Account > Subscriptions in the device Settings). Cancelling stops the next renewal; Plus benefits continue until the end of the term already paid for.
5. Under the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, a Member may withdraw from the purchase within 7 days of payment. Where the Member has already used Plus benefits within that period (AI use beyond the free cap, multiple candidates and so on), withdrawal may be restricted under Article 17-2 of that Act, and the Company states this on the Plus screen before payment. Withdrawal and refunds are processed through the Store's refund procedure (a refund request in Google Play, or Apple's Report a Problem at reportaproblem.apple.com); where the Company must handle them directly, the Member may request this at the email address stated in the Privacy Policy.
6. Where a Member could not use Plus benefits for a substantial period for reasons attributable to the Company, the Company refunds the fee in proportion to the remaining term or extends the term. Periods lost for reasons attributable to the Member (such as restriction of use for violating Article 13) are not refunded.
7. If the Company raises the price of Plus or reduces its benefits, it gives notice under Article 10 at least 30 days before the change applies. A Member who does not agree may cancel before that date; a Member who does not cancel and is renewed is deemed to have agreed to the changed conditions. The previous conditions apply to any term paid for before the change.
8. Deleting the account ends Plus as well. Account deletion does not automatically cancel the Store subscription, so the Member must cancel it separately in the Store. Refunds for the remaining term follow paragraphs 5 and 6.
9. The Company does not serve advertisements users have not asked for (banners, interstitials and the like). The Company may offer rewarded advertisements that users choose to watch in exchange for benefits such as an extension of the AI cap; the basic features of the Service remain available without watching them.
10. Matters not covered in this Article follow the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, the Content Industry Promotion Act and other applicable laws.
Article 21 (Limitation of Liability)
1. The Company is not liable for inability to provide the Service due to causes beyond its control, such as force majeure, war, telecommunications carrier failures, or failures or policy changes of external services including the AI provider.
2. The Company is not liable for disruption of use attributable to the user.
3. The Company is not liable for the content of Content users create or publish through the Service, or for the content of suggestions and images produced by AI features, except where the Company has neglected its duty to act under Article 14.
4. The Company has no obligation to intervene in disputes between users, or between a user and a third party, arising through the Service, and is not liable for resulting damage.
5. The Company is not liable for loss of data stored only on the user's device, or for data loss occurring before the user has synced to the server.
6. For features provided free of charge, the Company's liability is limited, to the extent permitted by applicable law, to cases of intent or gross negligence. The Company's liability regarding Plus follows applicable law and Article 20.
Article 22 (Damages)
1. If the Company or a user causes damage to the other party by violating these Terms, it shall compensate that damage, except where it proves the absence of intent or negligence.
2. Where these Terms or applicable law provide otherwise, that provision applies.
Article 23 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)
1. These Terms are governed by and interpreted under the laws of the Republic of Korea.
2. Litigation concerning a dispute between the Company and a user is brought before the court having jurisdiction under the Civil Procedure Act. Where the user's address or residence is outside Korea or unclear, the Seoul Central District Court has jurisdiction.
3. These Terms are written in Korean. If a translated version differs in meaning, the Korean version prevails.
Addendum
1. These Terms take effect on October 19, 2026 and replace the previous Terms (v3.0) in effect from October 16, 2026.
2. These Terms also apply to Members who signed in before the effective date.
3. Plus becomes available on or after October 16, 2026.
